READING ROOM
BEFORE VISITING THE NOTARIAL REGISTERS ARCHIVE
The NRA collection is currently being migrated back from storage to climate control repositories after an extensive rehabilitation project financed by the European Regional Development Fund, thus not all registers may be accessible at this moment in time.
Registered researchers may consult the archives in person in the Notarial Registers Archive Reading Room under staff supervision. The room is open from 08:00 until 15:00 from Monday to Friday.
New researchers may register by filling in the Researcher Registration Form and presenting a valid ID Card, Passport or Driving License during their first visit. We do not accept copies, images or prints of such documents.
Registered researchers and those intending to register, need to order documents in advance by email on re*********@na******.org

HANDLING GUIDELINES
These guidelines have been drawn up for everyone who is researching the collection at the Notarial Registers Archive. This will ensure the preservation of the collection for future readers.
If you feel unsure of the safest way to handle a document, please ask for assistance from a Reading Room Coordinator.
As a general rule, we do not allow gloves to be worn in our Reading Room. All visitors to the Reading Room are asked to wash their hands before and after their visit. Nail polish can be damaging as it can mark the surface of paper or parchment.
There are some general practices that should be followed by everyone:
- avoid using hand cream and hand sanitiser;
- do not lick your fingers when turning folios;
- avoid leaning on or touching the document;
- look out for vulnerable areas and take care when turning leaves;
- use extra supports provided by the Reading Room staff;
- use snake weights to hold open leaves. Avoid placing the weight on text or vulnerable areas;
- only use acid-free paper to flag leaves (remove any markers after the session);
- do not drag items across the surface of the table;
- use a an acid free marker to follow the text;
- wait for the Reading Room staff to take away the document once you have finished consulting it.
Please keep the documents in the order in which you have received them and return them in their appropriate folder.
