CONSERVATION
The Conservation team is dedicated to safeguarding the holdings of the Notarial Registers Archive, ensuring their preservation for present and future generations. Our primary responsibility is to stabilise the collections while maintaining the original structure, function, and distinctive characteristics of each historical object.
Our work encompasses both preventive measures, such as environmental control and pest management, and hands-on conservation treatments. We also collaborate actively with national and international institutions on research projects that advance conservation knowledge and practice.

We recognise the significance of our collection, which offers invaluable insights into the notarial profession and the historical evolution of binding materials. For this reason, we follow a minimal intervention approach that preserves the collection’s historical integrity while stabilising items for safe use. This approach ensures that all historical features are retained without compromising the object’s stability.
Each intervention is grounded in in-depth research at both historical-contextual and scientific-material levels, and is accompanied by meticulous documentation of the object’s condition and the conservation process.
Our team of warranted and certified conservators adheres to the latest conservation principles and works exclusively with high-quality materials tested for chemical stability and long-term durability. We are committed to preserving the collection of the Notarial Registers Archive and ensuring its longevity for generations to come.
